| CALVARY Oh, I can see there atop that dark hill, A Cross as it stands in the twilight so still. And the form of a man so dejected and worn As the multitudes gazed on in mockery and scorn; The blood as it dripped from His wounded side, As He gave up the ghost, bowed His head and died. Oh, such agony! Such pain and despair From that humble man, who paid it all there. What did He do to deserve such cruel fate, He knew not the meaning of dislike or hate? Yet, He bore it all meekly with never a word.. Not even a moan from His dear lips was heard. He lifted His eyes to His Father above and prayed For the ones who had witnessed such love. For 'twas God's only Son there atop that dark hill, Who died on the Cross in the twilight so still. Christ gave His dear life for a sinner like me. So I can live with Him thru-out all eternity. Now I can worship around the White Throne, And live in a mansion prepared as my own; Sing His praises forever! Have life ever more, When I cross Jordan over on that bright shore. For He purchased my life there atop that dark hill, When He died on the Cross in the twilight so still. CHRIST HAS PAID THE DEBT FOR YOU AND FOR ME, STAMPED 'PAID IN FULL' ON CALVARY'S TREE! ****************************** More poems/pages by Shirley Kotsanos: |
